Turneo

Sole Product Designer
Overview
Turneo is an experience management platform hotels use to run their experiences: spa treatments, transfers, tours, rentals and more.
Its booking model had been outgrown. It caused a steady stream of support issues and couldn't support new kinds of experiences or flexible pricing.
I led its redesign, from hotel set-up to the guest booking flow.
The Unit
The old model reduced every product to a single concept, the unit. A unit could be a participant, a vehicle or a duration, and guests always saw it as a quantity selector, even when the mental model in reality was a single choice.
Wrong Control for Guests
Every unit showed as a counter, so 8 × “Group of 4–8” could mean 8 people or 8 groups.
No Head Count
If units counted cars or groups, hotels and organisers couldn't know the guest count.
Pricing by Workaround
With no price rules, hotels set up group tiers and rental days as extra units instead.
A Barely Usable Setup
Some details couldn't be edited, forcing copies and workarounds. Many fields were unclear.
Renewed Every Year
Options had a fixed end date, so every year hotels had to extend or reactivate each one.
Limited Activity Types
Single-day events and multi-day bookings, like bike rentals or sunbeds, weren't supported.
1 in 3
booking options gave guests a suboptimal experience.
“Low floor, high ceiling, wide walls” — Mitch Resnick, on what makes a good creative tool
We set out to build a tool that's easy for a hotel to start with, able to grow into complex setups, and open to every kind of experience.
Principles
A Setup that Scales With the Experience
“Simple things should be simple, complex things should be possible.” — Alan Kay
Effortless for Guests, Whatever the Setup
The hotel's complexity should never reach the booking form.
Built for How Each Hotel Sells
Any experience, configured the way that hotel works.
Key Decisions
A Head Count, Always
Every booking records how many people are coming, including experiences like transfers that never asked before.
Single-Choice Variants
Offers that differ, e.g. a sedan or a van, are a single choice with an image, not counters a guest could add together.
Pricing Models Built In
We built in the four ways hotels price, by flat rate, per person, group size tiers, or per day with longer-rental discounts.
Capacity That Fits
Before, one limit counted units, so on a transfer it capped cars. Now hotels cap guests per booking and per time slot separately.
Guests will receive instant confirmation for their booking based on your availability in Turneo system
Rate option with fixed timeslots where guests form the group with everyone who booked that slot
Set the time interval for which the booking can be made in 24h format

+ Add fieldSetup became a step-by-step flow with a live preview of what guests will see. Bret Victor argues that creators need an immediate connection to what they make. The preview gives hotels exactly that: every change appears in the guest view as they make it.
Internally, I often championed usability. Options with dates used to expire at the end of their range, so hotels re-extended their year-round experiences by hand every season. Part of the team wanted to keep forced expiry, so hotels review their prices and stale ones don't get booked. We added continuous availability for year-round experiences and kept seasonal availability, which still expires at year-end, when prices change anyway. It won over both sides.
The new model now carries every booking on the platform.
It made booking sunbeds through Turneo possible: Sunbeds runs on the same model and brought in its own clients.
Ops no longer explain how setup works or set up options for hotels, so onboarding is far less hands-on.
